Referee "Sorry-athons," the Titans' Rotten Culture, and the End of the Tszyu Era

In a scathing Monday post-mortem on Kenty Blitz, Kenty and Woz unload on a weekend of NRL officiating blunders and the looming collapse of a foundation club. From the Dragons' heartbreak to the "shambles" at Gold Coast headquarters, Kenty offered a brutal assessment of a game he claims is being "managed" rather than officiated.

The "Wood Duck" in the Bunker and the Dragon’s Demise

The episode opened with a deep dive into Shane Flanagan’s explosive post-match comments following the Dragons' loss to Canterbury. Kenty sided firmly with the coach, labeling the bunker official a "wood duck" for overturning a crucial play-the-ball decision.

"The referee got it right and the wood duck in the bunker he got it wrong... you have the benefit of all those cameras and you have a little bit more time... they have to get it right."

Kenty argued that these errors are more than just isolated incidents; they are effectively ending seasons. With the Dragons now six points out of the eight, he noted, "That win would have kept them in contention... six points is probably too far a bridge now for them."

Referees: "Managing" vs. Officiating

A central theme of the episode was the "unconscious bias" and the perceived "square-ups" by officials at halftime. Kenty expressed deep frustration with the NRL's shift toward managing the flow of the game rather than enforcing rules consistently.

I'm sick of seeing one half being refereed one way and the second half suddenly that team that's so poorly disciplined in that first half they come back into it and suddenly their discipline improves incredibly... the referees manage the game rather than officiate the game."

He also took aim at the NRL's goal of a three-and-half-second average tackle time, calling it "absurd" when every team’s goal is to win the ruck and dictate speed themselves.

The Titans' "Rotten" Culture and Desi’s 500th

Turning to the Gold Coast, Kenty provided a grim outlook for the Titans and coach Des Hasler. Following a "rookie error" where the team failed to pack a scrum within 40 seconds—resulting in a penalty that leveled the scores—Kenty questioned the professionalism of the entire playing group.

"I just think they're a rotten playing group as a whole... they do not understand what it takes to win. They have no concept. They think that they are doing all that is necessary to win a game of football and they have no idea."

With whispers that Hasler could be sacked as early as November due to a performance clause, Kenty described the club as a "shambles" that has been "allowed to rot" under the radar.

The "Masterclass" of Wayne Bennett

In a rare moment of praise, Kenty analysed how Wayne Bennett is handling the South Sydney Rabbitohs' injury-plagued season. Rather than applying pressure to a squad that cannot make the finals, Bennett has opted to "lighten the place up."

"Wayne has recognised the season is over... so he's not going to put pressure on his players... he's just taking the tension out of it all. It’s a real lesson for coaches to how you deal with a situation where they can't make the playoffs."

Tim Tszyu: "I Think He's Finished"

The episode concluded with a shocking take on Australian boxing star Tim Tszyu following his recent defeat. Kenty was uncharacteristically blunt about Tszyu’s performance and his decision to stop the fight on his stool.

"I think Tim Tszyu's finished mate to be honest... he quit on his stool. I can't remember the last time a fighter in a world championship fight just 'cause he wasn't winning the fight decided he'd had enough. I think something psychologically is gone in him... he'll never win a world title again."
