Will Warbrick set to sign multi-year deal with New Zealand Warriors

The New Zealand Warriors are set to announce a major signing that will see Will Warbrick return home to New Zealand.

The news will be welcomed by Warriors fans still reeling in the fact they will lose premier front-rower Mitch Barnett at the end of the season.

After switching from rugby sevens, Warbrick has quickly become a key figure in the Melbourne Storm backline since racking up more than 50 appearances and 38 tries, despite missing time in recent seasons due to concussion issues.

Born on New Zealand’s North Island, the 28-year-old played AFL as a teenager before representing New Zealand in rugby sevens at the Tokyo Olympics, where he was part of the team that won silver medal. He then transitioned to rugby league with Melbourne, spending a year in the Queensland Cup before breaking into the NRL and playing in consecutive grand final appearances over the past two seasons.

Warbrick’s move signals a major boost for the Warriors as they prepare for next season, adding a proven try-scorer and versatile athlete to their roster.
